Major in Film at USC or Communications?! Please help guide me with your advice!

In doing a bit more research I have found out exactly what it is that I want to do. I recently received an internship to write and direct a commercial advertisement. It was amazing, and I want to continue doing this. I have a heavy background with writing which is why my original major was English. However, there came a point where I wanted to get away from literature and write- but not just anything, specifically, non-fiction or scripts. I was recommended to major in creative writing or communications. And in taking an advertisement course and a consumer behavior course at SC I have decided that I would like to purse that as my career. I was recommended to major in creative writing or communications. I was also recommended film, but for some reason didn't put much thought into that, because all I could think of was my mother's voice telling me that it is NOT a good degree. I will get to the point now- I was not so fond of the communications classes because they do not seem as "hands on" as I'd like them to be and now I am thinking of applying for film and t.v. productions as my major with a minor in business marketing, emphasis on advertisement and promotion. What I want to know is if you think this is a good direction or if I am better off with a major in Communications? Can I use my film degree for advertisement/marketing? What possible jobs am I eliminating in replacing Comm with film?

The Cinema school is basically much better than anything else USC has, if you can do the film major emphasizing TV production, with whatever you want on the side, I think that would be fine.
