I am currently a BioSci major at UCI, but I’m considering a statistics major since I’ve always liked the subject and I just think it’s really interesting. The thing is, my school only has statistics as a minor… mathematics is a major, but I do NOT like calculus. So I’m not sure what to do now since I hate other math, but I love statistics. Any tips?
In my opinion, your best option is to just get past the “I hate calculus” or “I hate linear algebra” barrier, since those fields are widely used in statistics. I took an introductory probability course (18.440) which uses calculus and multi-variable calculus freely. The statistics for applications class, 18.443, also uses plenty of calculus.
I agree with @MITer94. Statistics has a fair amount of calculus in it. If you don’t like calculus, then I’m not sure if Statistics is the right major for you.
