Major in VP, Active in Theatre? (UT)

I'm heading towards my freshman year at The University of Texas to study vocal performance at the Butler School. For this, I am thoroughly excited. In the same vein though, I feel like I am abandoning my love for performing in theatre. I'm not interesting in pursuing MT, and neither is my voice (it just doesn't fit MT), right now.

Anyone w/ experience in the UT theatre/music programs who can speak to this would be greatly appreciated, as are all comments and suggestions: Is it viable to pursue a BM while maintaing an active profile, however minor, in the theatre program/stage productions? The department lists courses and such: Non Majors I'm interested in its feasibility.

I'd like to continue taking classes in traditional drama - I'll be taking intro. to theatre and acting for vocal majors in a "4 yr. plan".

Any insight? Once plans become more concrete I may contact the theatre department. Need to get music schedule in order first!

Regardless, I'll be enjoying the productions one way or another! And there is always the option of pursuing roles in community theaters etc.

I wonder if this fits better in the theatre forum... or UT... hrm.

Keep it up: bump.

cejaducegu, you might get some insight from posters in the musical theater, theater/drama or even the U Texas forum.

I'll give it a try. It's a good opportunity to correct some grammatical errors and misspellings. :)

Hi! I'm familiar with UT's voice and theatre depts. I would say that you can always be involved outside of school too-- stuff like the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Austin or Dougherty Arts Center. There's TONS of regional and community theatre in Austin! Besides that, I know that there are lots of classes for non-majors in the dept of theatre and dance. check out the course catalog!

Bump to keep it up one last time.
