Im a Princeton hopeful. I will most likely study Biology (Ecology)
and will major in it as well.
I have heard 'rumours' that choosing a less-popular major helps you in admission.

1) is Ecology/evolutionary Bio count as a less popular major?
2) does this really give the applicant an advantage in any way?

thanks

Well I'm looking at my Best 357 Colleges by the big P-ton themselves and they list biology as one of their most popular majors/concentrations, though obviously you have listed a much more specific field though nonetheless I would place your major as generally common. However, having a rare/uncommon major can definitely give you a slight advantage though at the same time it might work against you b/c you often have some adcoms lobbying for certain applicants to give more students to a certain field which equals more money for that department, so having a rare one can also work against you. Though I think that applying as a math major definitely had it's plusses b/c every school offers math majors though how often do people actually apply as one, so...
