Major Jump in EFC

My EFC jumped nearly double from the 2010-2011 to the 2011-2012. there were no major changes in income for me (student) or my parents. Could it be that I had filled out the Fafsa wrong the first time and never noticed?

I corrected the 2010-2011 Fafsa and it showed the EFC rising by a few hundred dollars but when I looked at the 2011-2012 because of some error "The amount of parents' taxes paid you reported is significantly greater than the amount reported last year, but the reported AGI has not increased significantly." and corrected it it the EFC went up from roughly 10,000 to roughly 12,000 dollars. What did I do Wrong?

My sister did move out recently (past couple weeks) who was living with my parents but she is still in school do I still count her? I had me and my sister in 2010-2011 form for being in school, but I put 1 (me) in school for the 2011-2012 since she left. Should it be 2?

Yes, changing the number in your parent’s household and especially the number in college will cause your EFC to change. When there are 2 college students, the parent portion of the EFC is split between them. You need to follow the FAFSA instructions carefully and refer to them for any question you’re unsure of. See the explanation for questions 72 & 73 here to determine whether your sister should be included:

Is your sister considered a dependent for financial aid purposes? If so, you include her in household size and number in college even if she doesn’t live at home. If she will not be in school NEXT year, then no … she is not considered to be in college (it is for next year, not this year).

Did you use taxes paid from line 55? Also double check to make sure you reported income from work correctly (line 7 plus line 13 if there is business income).
