What are the strong programs in film besides USC? I'm looking for a school that offers a minor as well. Thanks in advance.

Definitely look into NYU, Columbia, and UCLA. They have a really great film programs. Stanford has an excellent documentary film program, but I'm not sure if it's only offered as grad program or if you can major in it as an undergraduate.

Other possibilities: Emerson and Loyola Marymount.

Check out Florida State. They are one of the top programs in the nation, have just been honored by the Directors Guild of America, have won more student oscars than any other school in the last few years, and pay for all student production expenses. Even better, tuition, even for out-of-state students is a bargain. You can check them out at http://filmschool.fsu.edu/

thanks a lot for the replies, it's hard to distinguish the good from the mediocre when all i have is a college website

Northwestern

oh, and what school do you go to, celebrian? i'm in cbus, too.

hilliard davidson

Wesleyan among LACs (Michael Bay went there -- which may not be such a good thing if you've seen Team America) --

Also, California Institute of the Arts. www.calarts.edu

so CalArts, USC, and UCLA have the best film departments in California ? What about Chapman? Also, is Cal State Long Beach's film program decent? I want to go to one of the UCs or Chapman but I'm not sure if thoes are too far of a reach for me or not..

I guess you could

You can minor in animation and screenwriting at USC, but you have to apply for admission into the programs. Agree with the commentor on FSU, but it may be harder to get into than USC et al because of its small size.

Boston University and Penn State
