Ok so Im in a pretty sticky situation. Im applying to UC's right now for next fall, and my gpa is already kinda iffy because of a bad first semester. All of my other semesters have been above 3.5 but my average is still going to be at best a 3.3 after this term.

My problem is with one of my classes this semester, I'm currently taking 15 units and in all of those classes I am on par to get an A. This one class however, a poli sci class, is very difficult for students to do well in because the professor is so closed minded that if you dont agree or do things EXACTLY her way, you cant do well. Ok well I shouldnt make any excuses but I have not done well in that class so far and the best I can get by the end of this semester is a C. Its a pre-req though for my major at all of the UC's which I am applying to.

Will that affect my chances of getting into say UCLA or UCB, if i get a W so I can retake it next semester with a different prof, thus giving me a better chance of getting an A? Or should I just take the C and move on.

CLIFFS: stuck in a major prereq class, should I take the C, or drop and get a W but retake the class next semester with a different teacher to get an A. gpa is not strong enough to afford bad grades.

i'd say take the W and retake b/c i do believe the next grade replaces the C, or, here you're allowed to retake a class to boost the grade but not for credit.

if I stayed in the class and finished I would get a C, which means that is the final grade I get in the class. I would not be able to retake it.

The W however would allow me to retake it, so I guess that is the better option.
Im just worried that this will hurt my chances to get into the UC's

bobbak, colleges want you to have a B average for your major courses. Sure, you can get a C, but it will hurt your chance significantly. Unless you are willing to try your best to get at least a B, i suggest you to drop the course.

heres what my advisor told me, im an anthropology major ( i am doing pre med stuff to) and i was in a calc class where i would get a C and she told me to take the W rather than get a C and cost me in the long run when i apply to med or dent schools.
