Does UCB give preference to students who complete more major prerequisite classes by the end of their fall semester that they apply. I mean would someone who has 5/7 major classes finished at the end of the fall term be more competitive than someone who has 4/7 major classes finished at the end of the fall term IF everything else is controlled (GPA, ECs, and Essays) AND IF they both finish all 7/7 major classes by the end of spring semester prior to transfer??

I dont know if I was clear enough when asking this question, but I hope someone can answer. Thanks !

I asked because I was planning on taking Differential Equations (Part of Math 54) and EL ENG 42 equivalent in the spring semester prior to transfer. Should I try to cram those in the fall then along with Lin Algebra?

Why cramming? As long as you take it before transferring, you definitely have a better chance than those that don’t take it. If you want, you can try though, it will give you lots of spare time to take other courses.

Yeah see that was my question. I wanted to know if it would be at anymore of an advantage compared to other applicants if I were to take as many major pre-reqs BEFORE the spring semester prior to transfer (which means to cram the fall semester), so that all those classes would be included in my UC GPA calculation.

Or does it not make a difference if I spread it out so I finish them over the course of the spring semester as well (point being as long as I finish them before transfer).

I hope that makes sense, I dont know why I’m having trouble explaining this.

Lol I see. No, it doesn’t matter, as long as you take those courses before transferring out. I know an EECS transfer with a 3.85 that took Calc3, LA, DE and Physics 3 (4 major pre-reqs) the Spring before transferring and still got in, but his “contract” with Cal stated that he must earn a B or higher in each of those 4 courses. He ended up getting 2 As and 2 Bs and easily got in. Don’t worry about that.

I’m not EECS, but I had a contract thing also for Spring semester saying I needed B’s in Calc 3, Ochem 2, and Phys 3. I had a few more classes than the minimum reqs for my major but I took DE & Lin Alg over the Summer. I had put that as planned on my application but I’m not sure if that had any additional effect on my acceptance.

Having any part of the 61 series will help you with EECS.
