Major Prerequisites for Transfer Admissions

I will be applying to Cornell CS/ECE. They require at least 2 writing courses for sophomore standing. However at Purdue, we follow an intensely engineering oriented course and i have been exempted from studying english because of a high SAT score in CR and W. Will Cornell consider my case? I fear that I may have similar problems at other schools that I am applying to. Are prerequisites a great deal in transfer admissions?

I’d say e-mail Cornell and ask them. If you were exempt from those courses at Purdue, there’s a chance they may do the same. If they still require you to take them, maybe you could do that over Christmas break or the summer at a community college or something. I’d just make sure that works for the schools you’re applying to first, though!

I don’t know how important prerequisites are for transfers, but I know most schools require two English classes. So you may run into the same problem for your other schools.

Hope this helps!

just look at the website, in most cases it refers to prerequisites as required, as in not optional.

Some people get in without having done prereqs but it’s usually because they have called and spoken with someone about why they are unable to complete the courses so it is understood going in.

two comp courses are going to be standard pretty much anywhere. Your best bet is to call someone in the school to which you are applying and see what you can work out.
