I really have no idea what's wrong with my commonapp account.

Just now, I was trying to edit some parts of the Activities section of my common app but it won't let me fix anything at all. Everything is in grey and I can't click any of the boxes, let along write something in the sections. What's wrong with it??!?!?!

Is it because I submitted an early decision application? Does anyone have the same problem with me?

Yes, that’s the problem- you cannot edit your application once it has been sent to a college.
If it’s a major problem that you need to fix, you can duplicate your application.

wow, I’m screwed in the @$$… My personal statement–that now cannot be changed, supposedly?–was horrible. I was hoping to submit a completely different essay.

How do I duplicate my application then?

No no no you’re not screwed lol. You can create alternate versions or “replicate” your application and then everything will be editable again and you send that to a different school. To make an alternate version…follow this

You can create an alternate version of your application by following the steps below.
Step1: You must submit the Common Application to at least one institution. When this is complete, you must log out of your account.
Step 2: Copy and paste the following link into your browser window (if you click, it may not work):
https://www.commonapp.org/CommonApp/Default.aspx?allowcopy=true
You will be presented with a login screen to the Common Application. You must then enter your existing Username and Password and click Login.
Step 3: You will be presented with a screen titled Application Versions, where you will see information about the application that youve already submitted. You may then click on the Replicate link to create an alternate version of your submitted application. When this is complete, a second version will be visible on this screen. A special drop down will appear in the upper right corner of the application to allow quick access to all your applications.
Step 4: You may edit the alternate version to allow for college-specific information. You also should move any schools needed to the new version.

Hope that helped. Good luck.

@korhawaus: THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH! Wow, I was literally about to cry when I thought I couldn’t edit my application. Thanks to you, I might actually have a better chance at colleges now haha :]]

No problem! :] Tell me how it goes…and if it actually works. I still haven’t tried it but i know im gonna need to use that feature…

i remember last year when sending my apps (im a transfer applicant now) as a senior in HS, i didn’t know that i couldn’t edit it after i send to one school, so i just ended up sending a app with Boston U. specific information to ALL my other schools. then i had to email the schools of the mistake…gosh complete failure. ■■■. I got rejected to all…lol…yeah i was pretty damn sad lol.

@korhawaus: It worked out perfectly! Thank you again. So I’m assuming you are a class of '13? Just wondering, are you reapplying to the schools?? Sorry if I sound a little nosy, but if you do, I really do hope for the best of luck for you! Let me know if there’s anything else you’d like me to test out with Common App haha :]]

Thank you!!

Haha don’t worry you’re not being nosy. Yes im class of 2013 …hs grad 09. after being rejected to all my “mainland” schools (i live in hawaii), i only got into my last choice…my home university. gah…so im applying for transfer now, i know seems early but seriously…whats there to lose. might as well just apply again :/

but yeah glad its working! cuz i need to use it too lol. haha good luck with ur colleges!
