Im a Princeton hopeful. I will most likely study Biology (Ecology)
and will major in it as well.
I have heard 'rumours' that choosing a less-popular major helps you in admission.

1) is Ecology/evolutionary Bio count as a less popular major?
2) does this really give the applicant a advantage in any way?

appreciate the help.

It may be true that, in certain cases, choosing an unpopular major with a strong academic or extracurricular background in that subject can benefit an applicant, but this does not apply to most applicants (certainly not biology). Ecology & evolutionary biology are less popular than molecular biology, but it's still a fairly popular major at most colleges (the relatively few that offer it, at least). I applied to Yale as an EEB major with a considerable amount of field research under my belt, and I was rejected.
