I am a freshman Microbiology major who just switched from engineering. I’m not necessarily going to change my major again, but I just want to see if there are any other options out there that might intrigue me. I don’t want to be narrow minded like I was back when I was in engineering.
Interests: 1. Biology 2. Politics/Government 3. Physics 4. Math 5. Geography
Do not like: things like English, Psychology, History. (Humanities.)
I also really hate computer programming and understanding structures. (I don’t know why the hell I was in engineering either.)
Academic strengths: Memorization, writing, and numerical processes.
Weaknesses: Short attention span (really want to get this looked into), reading, explaining concepts, computers and programming, and understanding structures.
What do I want in a job:
Please tell me if this sounds idealistic, I am 19 and I don’t know what the work place looks like outside of restaurants/retail!
- Less dependent on interpersonal interactions -I am a socially capable introvert, but I would just rather not put myself in a position with lots of people. I've worked retail/restaurant jobs before and I mentally just cannot tolerate the high stimulation. I break down, crash, and burn out hard.
- Not sitting at a desk all day/on a computer -I am really having a tough time with this one. It seems like most professions involve sitting at desks all day and that makes me really depressed. When it isn't so cold out, I love being on my feet, outside, and walking. I'll walk 15 miles a day if I have the time. I also don't really find anything about technology or big data exciting.
- Not structure based. -I have 0 interest in returning to engineering. I realized real quickly that I hate fixing things, designing/building structures, and programming.
- Not repetitive -I noticed while I was in engineering, a lot of the tasks the alumni came in and spoke of seemed really repetitive. Business seems very closely related to engineering in certain respects and I don't want to do that either.
Pharma and Food seem like my best bets, but I want to make sure I am not leaving any stone un-turned.
