Major to best complement Music Technology minor?

I have a goal of entering the music production career field. UTSA offers a minor in Music Technology, which exactly resembles my goal, but I’m wondering what I should major in- Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering. If not those what others would be recommended?

Are you a musician yourself? Majoring in performance could get you a lot of good experience actually playing the music you want to work with.

Yes I am but I do not think my dad would approve of spending his money on me majoring in music.

Does he approve of spending his money to prepare you for a career as a musician, be it as a producer or otherwise?

In all reality, most people don’t end up in careers related to their college major. So either try to explain that to your dad, or pick something he approves of that you’re passionate about. Engineering could be great if that’s what you’re in to, but don’t do it just thinking the degree will guarantee you a job later (because it won’t!).

computer science!

You can major in music production. The major has all kinds of different labels, very confusing. Audio production, recording technology, studio production, music technology, electronic music. So you have to look carefully at what the curriculum is.

If your father won’t let you major in an applied, career-oriented field like this, I am not sure what to say. You may need to find someone who can talk to him

Do you compose? In other words, is your interest in production creative or technical? Or do you want to manage others (another way “production” is used).

You can major in computer science or audio engineering, if that is better with your parents. Audio engineering is another label for music production in some cases
