On the application, if my first selection for a major is extremely competitive, does that place me in a position for more competition? I put computer science down as I wanted to explore the field more, but I'm having mixed feelings. Emory (Oxford) on the application states it doesn't affect the admissions decision, but it does, right?

Just a note, the comp sci program at Oxford is quite poor. To my knowledge neither Emory nor Oxford care about intended major. After all, I recall hearing the statistic that about 65% of Oxford and Emory students come in pre-med (probably not right though) but the vast majority end up changing their minds. If the school admitted people by proposed majors, the percent of freshmen premeds would probably be much higher.

I really don’t want to be a computer science major, I just want to take a few classes in the field. As of now I’m undecided, literally, what I want to do. After taking a variety of courses I hope to see what interests me the most.
