I applied to Boston College as a physics major. From what I’ve seen, it doesn’t seem like there are a lot of people (at least on CC) that plan on studying physics/math at BC. Do you think this choice of major would make a difference in the admissions process? I haven’t received anything to this point (I live in MA), so I’m hopeful that I will get in. However, after seeing so many great applicants waitlisted or rejected, I don’t know what to think about my chances!

I think it could definitely help. How gung-ho were you about math/physics in your app? Physics is one of the top programs at BC, so I think if you show a passion for a given discipline, regardless what it is really, and also show how BC would be able to further that passion/how your passion would enrich BC, you should have nothing to worry about.

If you just checked physics off on a list of potential majors, and didnt discuss it at all, I think it will make little-to-no difference.

Good luck

Since I used the common app. (some schools I applied to as undecided), I didn't stress it as much as I could have. However, my high school curriculum showed a passion for math/physics. I took calculus when I was a lot younger and have been taking college courses in math and physics at a local university since (abstract algebra, advanced calculus, some physics majors classes, etc.) I hope it will help; I would really like to study physics and math at BC!

Edit: I just hope my 700 in physics won't hurt at all. I took it earlier in high school and never really bothered to retake it.
