Major?

Hi everyone:

I was wondering how much the choice of major matters for admission to NEU. I was recently deferred EA with a first-choice major of behavioral neuroscience, while many of my classmates with much lower GPAs and SATs were accepted (to the poli science major, art, and undeclared). Similar to other people on the thread, I was sort of shocked when I read the online deferral notice. I called and requested to change my major to psychology with a second choice in IR (will this help me?).

Also, should I call and request to speak with the member of the adcom who read my application to ask what I can do to improve my chances?

Thanks in advance.

bump...anyone, please?

Yes, changing to another major may help you. In the meantime, you should definitely call the regional adcom. Some are not right in the Boston admissions office. I posted a link on this forum with the contact information for adcoms by state. Find it and call or email.

Your major does effect your admission; however, I wouldn't recommend changing it to psychology, as that is an incredibly popular major...or at least generally speaking.

hmm...even if I have a 94 in AP Psych?

Thanks for the replies :-)
