Majoring In A Computing Career - Help

Information Technology
Information Systems
Computer Science
Computer Engineering

Okay, so I like working with computers.
I'm having trouble choosing a major. I am currently a sophomore in college.
I'm "undecided/undeclared" for major right now.
My freshmen year I just took general education courses, including math upto Calculus I.

I have no idea which of these (above listed) majors I want to be in.
I am not strong in math and physics (okay with biology, currently taking chemistry, boring.)

All I know is that I like computers, I don't have any programming experience at all.
I would love to learn, but is it math involved? (Like calculus?)

I was thinking of doing IT, because I thought that would be an easy way out of the math and science (like calculus and physics... etc.), but is this a good career field in the future?
Does it promise job opportunities in the future? Salary?

I did consider a major in computer science or computer engineering but do I have to be very good at math and physical sciences?

Please help! Thank you so much in advance!

You can do a search on the Engineering forums and there are some posts that explain in detail each computing major.

Having said that…computer science would be the best major because it prepares you for all of the above. If I were to throw my 5 cents in (and I know you didn’t ask for it), make sure you take the following computer science courses:

Algorithms

Data Structures

Organization/Survey/Theory of Programming Languages

Operating Systems

The above will give you the firm foundation of computing and computer science.

To get you going in I.T., additionally take:

 • Database Systems
 • Computer Networks
 • Computer Graphics
