Majoring in Bio & Playing Sports

I am going into my sophomore of undergraduate studies @ UC & am stuck between majoring in biology and business. I also run division 1 track & field which takes up a hell of a lot of time. I went into my freshman year of college taking biology courses and got an B in lab fall quarter, A in lab winter quarter, and B in lab fall quarter. I got a C's all three quarters in my bio lecture (and I had a tutor) and I did not take chem my freshman year because I wasnt sure if I wanted to major in bio. I know that you can major in anything and go to dental school but I would still have to take science courses as electives just to be considered if I changed my major. I made flash cards for terminology, drew diagrams of glycolysis, krebs cyclen, and carbon to fully understand it, and attended every class but the 70s on exams just continued to roll in. Also I did not mind the lectures but hated the labs because they were so boring. The lab reports sucked and being in there for 3 hours one a week seemed like forever.

I wanted to be a dentist but I am not sure if I will be able to keep up with the work because Cs wont make it into dental school. Also, Im not that good of a standarized test taker (Studied for the ACT & only went from a 17 to a 19) I studied for quite a bit of time and only managed C's in my 100 level bio lectures and I know that the classes will only get harder. My other nonscience classes went very well as well.

With me competing at the highest level of sports in the NCAA would admission committees take playing a Division 1 sport into considering when making a decision and is there any additional advice that you could give me?

From what I have heard, your athletic talents will probably not compensate for poor grades. That’s not to say that athletic talent isn’t helpful for your application - it’s just that athletic talent will only make up for “average” grades.

Just wondering, do you enjoy biology? Do you enjoy the idea of being a dentist?

Why on Earth would you even WANT to get into dental school if you got a C in bio-100 and can barely stand 3 hours in a lab? Pharm/med/dental/etc. school would be like the ninth layer of hell for you.

To be blunt, no decent postgraduate professional school will accept you with all Cs in your required lectures.

Pick one:

Sports

More study time

You’re in college to get an education, not to **** around and play sports (unless we’re talking college basketball or football).

If you are serious about dental school, then you will drop track and field. Do you seriously expect dental schools to look past your grades just because you played a D1 sport?

^Just to add. If you were doing business, I hear that they do look favorably on sports players, but usually if you were a varsity captain or something. However, for dental/medical school, it’s all about the GPA/research experience, really. If you were really serious about dental/medical, you probably should have shifted focus away from sports (you don’t have to completely shun sports)

If you are struggling with basic biology courses I don’t think science is your calling. You will get killed when you take 200 level genetics, Organic Chemistry, physics and heaven forbid physical chemistry.
