I am considering majoring in computer science and minoring in both math and finance. I would really like to finish in 3-3.5 years, is it possible? I am still undecided and I want to declare my major as soon as possible.
How possible it is depends on your college’s degree requirements, what credit you have going in (AP, IB HL, college), and whether you can take overload schedules.
Do you think its a good combination? I feel like if I major in CS and minor in both math and finance I will be getting a higher return on my investment in terms of starting and mid career salary. Also, I am not quite sure what I want to do after I graduate, I am leaning towards a career as a software developer, financial analyst, or any high paying tech job.
Minors don’t really matter much as a distinction. It’s more important to take good classes and learn useful things. My recommendation is a rather simple one: choose CS as your major, take classes that sound interesting to you in your first few years, and build towards the kinds of jobs you’d be interested in having. It’s easier to go CS-> Math or CS -> Economics than in the reverse direction.
You wouldn’t have had to say so for me to figure out that you really have no idea what you are doing. And I’ve found that graduating early without understanding what comes next is a rather undesirable path. Whether or not you can, I would say that you shouldn’t.
