I was just wondering if it is more likely to get admitted into a good college such as columbia, duke, cornell, if your possible major is something that is not expected from your background. For example, an asian male majoring in english or philosophy or a female majoring in engineering

Female in engineering, yes. Asian in the humanities, I’m don’t know if it statistically gives you a better chance, but it might make your application stand out more, which is always a good thing.
