majoring in vs getting B.A.?

what is the difference between selecting major in computer science for example and getting B.A.? do they mean same thing?

Broadly speaking: a bachelor’s degree (like BA) is what you’re awarded when you graduate from a four year college. Think of it as the next thing you’ll be working for after you get your high school diploma. Unlike high school, to get your college diploma you have to designate and complete a specialty area of study, which is your “major”. So at college graduation, everyone will be getting a BA (or similar) diploma but some people will have majored in CS while others have majored in history or biochemistry.

Majoring in computer science = working toward a B.A. or B.S. degree in computer science.
