How did you guys answer the "how will you utilize academic programs in your school/college to further explore major or field of interest" essay? Did you do something general like talk about the overall quality of cornell academics or did you discuss in detail courses/profs/ etc?

i just talked about general programs... i don't think you can get itno much detail in 250 words. I thought that all the questions the common app and cornell asked were very similar to each other. alot of redundancy. Good luck!

i talked about cornell academics in general (and got in)

I'm applying to the College of Engineering, so I mentioned their Student Project teams, etc. More specific is probably better, but general should work as long as you demonstrate knowledge of the school to which you are applying.

i wrote on the basis that i got in, and i had '4 short years' to do certain things

i wrote about how cornell is strong in religion&anthropology, and i mentioned how i'd love to make use of the nepal study abroad program. i wrote about how CAS is a small environment within the opportunity of a large research university. i didn't mention professors, but i did get more specific than general academics.

im having the same problem, just totally stuck. the first one was CAKE!

i found the second one really easy.
the first one required a bit of thinking.

Oh same, I've been watching the time dwindle away...and now the deadline is so close and I have nothing written!!
runs around in circles
Merry xmas, all

"nepal study abroad program"
i have been to nepal, india and sri lanka. they are BEAUTIFUL.

Lol, you found the second one easier? I wrote the first one in ten minutes then mulled over the second one for three days. Ended up filling 70 words or so on why I want to study history in US not Korea.

oh wasnt i supposed to be a puritan prude?? :D
hheheeehee
what was tough about the 2nd one???? i just wrote what i intended to do once i got in cornell. the first one required some thinking. well i do have a lot of "intellectual" interests.

ok guys...here's the synch...in the first one u explain WHY u like a subject (I wrote abt quantum theory and superstring theory) and in the second one u write abt HOW cornell will help u learn this...There has to be a continuity btwn the 2 essays...also...please don't give a list of all programs at Cornell...sure it shows that uve done ur homework, but try to make it personal...remember the essay is supposed to speak abt u

aravinhurt, did you live in any of those places? it's like my ultimate dream to get away from this place. which was your favorite? that may be a stupid question, but i've always imagined sir lanka to be gorgeous.

hi, I've been to SriLanka, Colombo actually and only.

Its a beautiful country, lots of open spaces ( we don't have that here in Spore) and natural beauty. If you have the opportunity, go!

India, in my eyes, is the most beautiful country in the world. Its in being there, and how it makes me feel -

macalesterhopeful
i think i will go with india too.
vast, diverse, beautiful, colorful and exotic.
colombo is more popular for its beaches and stuff but you can find all that in india too and better ones at that.

yeah, India is great as a holiday or for an intellectual experience...
For holidays we got Goa, B'lore, Kerala...
For Intellectual experience we got the IITs and B'lore actually speaking with its IT Mania is IT haven

Also, how many of u knew that 35% of NASA was run by Indians

NO WAYS..35%!!!
r u an indian??

the Location says it all...yes i am Indian

And thats what our NAL professor told us...NAL_ National Aeronautic Laboratories
The top 10 students from India were selected for a Research camp at NAL and I was one of them...thats where i learnt that 35% :D
