hi,
i'm planning to apply to berkeley's eng. math and stat. program, but i was wondering if its possible once (if) i'm admitted, to change my major before junior year. if anyone who's reading this attends berkeley, can you tell me the procedure to change one's major within the COE, if at all possible? (although i'm sure at this point that eng. math and stat. is my preferable major, it may change to say mechanical eng. or eng. physics.)
thanks,
kishore

Yes, it is possible, but certainly not automatic.

The procedure is that you go to your engineering advisor, request a change, fill out some forms, and then (usually) meet the assistant dean to justify the change. The CoE will then review your request, look over your academic record, and decide whether to grant you your request. The decision will be based on your academic performance and how many slots are available in the major you are trying to get into.

MechE and Engineering Physics aren't heavily in-demand majors so it shouldn't be too hard to switch into them as long as you're in the engineering school
