Majors & College Suggestions for student interested in fashion?

My daughter has always had an interest in fashion. She used to draw, but isn't necessarily interested in design. She took a couple fashion marketing classes in high school and loved them! What schools in the east, midwest, north east or south east AND what majors would be good? A lot of the schools I see in the fashion area are non-traditional (not a typical chief campus experience) and/or are for-profit, such as Full Sail, Art Institutes, etc. I've not heard a lot of good about for-profit schools. Suggestions please!

I forgot to add I’m also looking for info on traditional majors, like Business, Marketing, etc that would have her on track for a career in the fashion
industry. I don’t think she has a particular area she’s decided to focus on yet.

Zapfino, thanks for the great list! NC State, being in the south, looks promising.

If your daughter does end up being interested in design, Parsons is considered the top fashion design school.

Northeast suggestions:
Parsons in NYC
Pratt in Brooklyn
FIT in NYC
Mass college of art & design in Boston
RISD - Providence RI
Seneca College in Toronto

My D2 is looking at all of these, but also LACs that offer majors in fashion design (Lasell College in the Boston area), communications (Quinnipeac/ Salem State, Champlain/ SUNY New Paltz), Art history (lots and lots of LACs)…for a more general education.

At this point she’s considering returning to Emerson College and switching her major from Writing/Literature/Publishing to Marketing Communication. It doesn’t address the Fashion Merchandising component though. I believe she’s looking to things such as internships to get her into the Fashion Merchandising area. Another option is Univ of SC for their Retail Management/Fashion Merchandise major. Anyone have information on Univ of SC’s Retail school and programs? We looked at NC State and Missouri, but neither of those really interested her.

One other thing that may be a plus for Emerson is the ProArts Consortium where Emerson students can take classes at Mass College of Art & Design. That may get her the fashion component she’s missing.
