majors for med school

Just out of curiosity, if I wanted to go to med school, would I be able to get in with a double major in comp science and econ, and if I knew all the math there is in college.

I don't want to go to med school, but I'm just wondering.

I presume I would need to take some science classes though.

you can get into med school with pretty much any major. Majors like Bio and Biochem are only "needed" if you plan on doing graduate work in these fields.

As long as you fulfill their pre-med course requirements, you can take basically any major.

Excellent. Do you know if pre-med requirements are typically similar in top med schools?

Thanks.

would being a bio major give an edge over a business major with the med prerequisites?

Perhaps for grad school, where you would do in-depth work in biology.

Typically, the pre-med requirements consist of: general bio, general chem, organic chem, physics, and in many cases, calculus. These are also the subject areas tested by the MCATs.

It's hard to draw such definitive conclusions, but it seems that a higher percentage of non-science majors are accepted relative to biological science majors. http://www.aamc.org/data/facts/2004/mcatgpabymaj1.htm

Mind you, the applicants have similar GPAs and MCATs.
