Majors, help me please!

alright, ik some colleges allow two majors and four minors.. i think that's what i want to do. one day i would like to be a doctor, so what should i major and minor in? like i love physics, so i would like a major in that. and ik you should either get majors in physics, chemistry and biology- so maybe a major in both phyics and biology?

or a major in biophysics and biochemistry? so it's kind of like all three?
and i'm going to take college chem my senior year.. i think i should take it again in college.
or a pre med major? some colleges offer that.
i'm just lost, as you can tell.

Wow, I’ve never heard of anyone having 4 minors. I thought 2 was the most…wow.

It sounds (to me) that you’re trying to come up with a great combo that will help you get accepted to a good med school.

My son is pre-med, and he’s double majoring in Chem Engineering and Biology.

Unless you’re going to come into the school with a lot of AP credits, it can be hard to fulfill the requirements for double majors or lots of minors.

When you say that you’re going to take “college chem” your senior year; do you mean AP Chem or a class at a college?

Even if you get AP Bio and/or Chem credits, you still need to take both at college. Some med schools won’t accept Chem or Bio credits if the only ones you have are from high school. They usually will allow you to use AP credits to jump to more difficult bio and chem classes.

It’s important that you don’t overwhelm yourself to the point that your GPA suffers.

As long as you take the suggested classes for pre-med at your college, get high grades, and do well on your MCATS, you can get accepted to med school. :)

when i say college chem- its a chemistry class from MVCC- a college

and i’m also going to be taking college physiology& anatomy for half the year. then the other half nutrition, cause that’s how its offered at my highschool.

can i just avoid these classes in college, making room for different ones?

Sure…it sounds like you’ll start regular college with a few classes out of the way. :)

How many credits will you have when you start college? 8? 12? more?

Remember, each minor is about 18-22 credits (depending on the minor - based on semesters), so the more minors you do…

a little over 40 i think. because SUPA english is 6 credits; college chem (gen chem 1&2) is 9. idk how many credits for the nutrition and anatomy. so i didnt even count that. but yeah about 40-ish

Well, with 40 college credits, you should be able to do at least one minor, maybe two.

It can be hard to double major because of the required classes for each major.

Many minors let you “pick and choose” classes that apply to your future career as long as you have enough that are upper division courses.

what is SUPA english? Is this from an American school?

yeah. Syracuse University Project Advanced- they offer different courses; high school teachers become certified to teach these college level courses. my school does the english program.

can i take a college course online during the summer?

*can i take a college course online during the summer? *

Your future college will decide whether it will accept online credits. Some online classes aren’t from accredited schools, etc. If you don’t know which college you’ll be attending after you graduate from HS, it’s hard to know.
