I've narrowed it down and Tulane is one of the top picks for college next year. I'd always planned on doing something with journalism (probably communications at Tulane) but something has sparked in me and, partly because of all the great things I heard at Honors Weekend and partly because it's been sitting in the back of my mind for a long time, I'm thinking about going premed (big jump, I know). I know concerneddad and some others know plenty about the medical program, so does anyone have any input on it? I've been doing my research on other programs until know and since May 1st is coming up really fast I need a little help.

a lot of kids take biomedical engineering to prep for med school. (that's my plan) and tulane's got a great biomedical engineering program.

My daughter nearly went to Tulane and is somewhat interested in med school.
She was very impressed with their neuroscience major which can prepare one nicely for med school. So biomedical engineering isn't the only way to get there. In fact, as long as you have the requisite core classes (bio, chem, physics, calc), any major will do.

There is one dad on this board (sorry, can't remember screen name) who has a son in pre-med. Hopefully, he'll respond--he seems to be very well informed.

He's concerneddad, and he can give you lots of good info. You might want to address a post to him.

You can major in anything and still get into med school as long as you have the pre-reqs (Bio, Chem, organic, etc).

My son is a junior double majoring in Neuroscience and Math. He has been pleased with the education he has received. His MCAT scores will tell all as he is taking them this Saturday. Can you say stress!!?

Audiophile and curiouser are correct; you do not need to major in science to attend Med School as long as you take the required courses.

Pokey, good luck to your son this Saturday. I'll keep my fingers crossed for him!

as others have said, as long as you the required pre-med core, you can major in a wide variety of disciplines. My son, who is pre-med at Tulane, is making his own major which involves aspects of neuroscience and cognitive studies.

alongfortheride-Thanks for the wells wishes, they are much needed. My daughter has her senior prom on Saturday, so my mind will be in 2 places at once; a rite of passage for both kids/young adults at once! The thought of possibly having a child in med school in a little over a year is a frightening thought; makes me feel very old. I swear it was only yesterday that my husband was in med school!
