Majors/Minors/Certificates... Oh My!

What is Princeton's policy on majors and minors? How many majors can you have? How many minors? Also, what can anyone tell me about the undergraduate certificate programs? Can anyone take them? How many can you take?

Any help would be wonderful!

Thank you

1 major.

Certificates are the same things as minors (basically). You can have more than one certificate.

What's the maximum number of certificates?

I don't think there is a maximum, but you might find it difficult to get more than two. Some certificates have a lot more requirements than you would expect and there are also requirements for independent work.

You can only have one major because you have to write a thesis for each of your majors (if you can pull of multiple theses, it's not technically prohibited to double major, but I don't think it's ever been done). The requirements for certificates vary (and not all departments offer a certificate program) but I would say that in general they are more demanding than minors at most other schools. All of them require some sort of independent work - sometimes you can fulfill that component with your JP or thesis (something that bridges your major and certificate - but most departments require that 50% or more of your JP/thesis has to do with your certificate) or you can write a separate paper.
