Majors..please :)

ok I'm kind of new here...

I was wondering if you guys could name different types of majors for me
I want to go into pre-med but I'm kind of worried about the workload and stress, medical school, and expenses.I'd become a teacher but they dont make much money,so can you please just give me a few major or career ideas.thanks in adv. :)

(please keep it positive,or i'll just ignore you)..plain and simple :)

Well first of all there are some posts at the top of this forum that say things like Read first and other things like that which you should look at because questions like this get asked pretty often.

Also there is no “pre-med” major, it is just a list of requirements of classes you take. If you want to be a doctor try some of them, probably start with general bio. Honestly if that is too stressful for you, then you are not meant to be a doctor. You didn’t really say what you like or what your good at. The only thing I got from that is that you want a job that makes a lot of money, so my advice would be to go into business of something like that except my guess would be that is pretty stressful too. I don’t want to be negative but I can’t think of many jobs that pay a lot but aren’t high stress.

The reason jobs pay a lot are because not everyone wants to or can do them to to intelligence needed or levels of stress or talent needed.

Movie star (lots of talent needed)
Doctor (high stress and you have to be really smart not to mention able to deal with the job and all the school)
Investment banker (you need to be smart and be able to deal with stress and the fact that you could be broke in a matter of hours)

if you think about it all jobs that pay high have a quality that makes them undesirable, most likely the work required from them.

If you think of things you like maybe I could have better suggestions

Are you still in high school? If so, are you a junior or senior?

You can major in whatever you want…what would you want to major in?

Are you strong in math and science?

You are exactly right.I’m new here so i’m just starting to learn how to use this site.I appreciate your reponse. Thanks

Yes, I am a senior in High School, I am good in math and science.I would like to major in biology, but for some reason I always viewed myself as a teacher because I love tutoring and helping others out,but teachers dont reallly make much money.I know it’s not just about the money, but I feel like I should challenge myself more.Do you know how long it takes to become a math professor and how much money they make?

Are you majoring in pre-med?

Well, I’m still in high school, but intending on being pre-med. You need to understand that the pre-med major DOES NOT EXIST. It is just certain classes that you have to take. To be a math prof. you need to probably major in math and then get a phd or matsters in math.

So average is 85,000 which is enough to live confortably.

oh ok.thanks.How come pre-med’s not a major, that’s what my teachers always told me. So if you’re not majoring in pre-med,what exactly are you going into to become a doctor?Biology?

Physics! :D

People use the phrase “pre med major” loosely. There is no such major. It just means that the person is including the pre-med req’ts along with his major. So, the major can be ANYTHING, but you add in about 9 classes in bio, chem, physics, and calculus.

For instance…

My son is a Chemical Engineering major but he’s also pre-med. My niece is a math major and she’s also pre-med. I have 2 nephews who are also ChemE majors and they’re pre-med. My friend’s son is a bio major and he’s pre-med.
