Hey, i am a Senior and i need to decide between two colleges:

Hofstra(Double Major: Psychology and Film Studies)

Drew(Double Major: Neuroscience and Behavioral Science Minor: Writing and English)

Drew University is my top choice, but they don't have a film major or minor! MY dream is to become a Psychiatrist and then later on develop psychological films(like Hitchcock and stories from Stephen King).

What should i do? Drew is much more prestigious than Hofstra BTW!

I just looked at Drew’s list of minors. DId you consider “Arts Administration and Museology?” If you could apply some of the course options there to explore film production, you might find it satisfying. Can you communicate now with someone from that department to find out more?

You might become a Psychiatrist with enough money to invest in or produce a film someday!

What about taking some summer coursework at a different school in film studies - even one not accredited, if you can afford that, just for the interest of doing it. Or see about a semester abroad, if Drew will honor it and you can still get all your major requirements satisfied as well with the term abroad.

That’s if you want to go to Drew much more than Hofstra, and are only trying to see how to inject some film “stuff” into your undergraduate studies since it’s of interest to you.

Outside of your major and minor, you could also take a course in theater or photography (if it’s in their Art History department). Another good course to squeeze in somewhere might be from the Music department, for example, Music Composition, History of Music or Music Appreciation, as music is part of every film.

Also consider why you are taking a “minor.” If that is required, well naturally you must. If not, you might decide to take a range of other courses that have some connection to film (as above) and not bother to declare any minor.

P3T! P3T! P3T!
the other guru!!!

Paying 3 Tuitions,
You’re awesome! I actually just called them today and they hooked me up with a professor who developed a list of courses that are “film” based from Art History, Music, Theater, Writing and English.

My schools does not require a minor, but i felt that taking minors are more noticeable to med schools than taking random courses. In fact, i just found out that it really isn’t a big deal, so i think i might go with taking random courses that are film based.

thank you!
