Majors That Help Get Accepted?

My question is: What are some majors for
Pennstate University Park that'll help my chances of getting in? Instead of just declaring undecided..

mmm, I don’t think you understand American college admissions.

(hint: unless you are applying to different schools within a University, your choice of major has no bearing on admission rate.)

the person before me was definitely wrong…

I know for a fact there are several REALLY hard majors to get into. (nursing for example) Since there are only a little over 100 spots for nursing students.

If you’re looking for a major easier to get in, although I’m not encouraging it… you could put park ranger. I know a few people who have done that. I do suggest just putting undecided if that’s what you are. I don’t think that will hurt you. My good friend just got in undecided!

Best of luck

Agree fully with Cel589.

Evitaperon: the poster was asking for a little help. Your response was both ridiculous and completely UNHELPFUL. Honestly, I’ve seen your posts on other threads within the PSU boards, and I can’t for the life of me figure out what you’re doing on the PSU boards. I can only assume it’s to get a rise out of people.

Anyway, good luck milkmanmike!

Yes, that’s because you’re really applying to a different school when you do that.

American colleges in general, so long as you remain in the same school, don’t discriminate between majors, partially because almost everyone changes their mind somewhat.

Apply to Department of Undergraduate Studies as undecided.

I agree-the easiest way to get admitted is DUS- Division of Undergraduate Studies.

Engineering, Business and Nursing are difficult admits.

That was my point exactly.

Unless you’re applying to programmes in China (where you have to commit to the programme you were admitted to, and there’s no such thing as major-switching), in the United States choice of major within a school (in the “subdivision of a university” sense) has no bearing on admission, and I would be very surprised to see an exception to that rule.

For the original poster-- you do select a major when you apply; its line 27 on the application.

“From the list provided, indicate below the name of the major area of study you wish to pursue at Penn State”

You can select Undecided/Exploratory, which would put you in Division of Undergraduate Studies/DUS. Undecided/DUS is thought of to be the ‘easiest’ major in which to get accepted.

Choice of major does impact admission decisions.

@evitaperson Oh okay, I get what you are saying. I just thought the user was asking about all majors in general not necessarily the specific schools. Just comparing all of Penn State’s majors

I don’t know about other colleges, but that makes no difference whatsoever with Penn State.
