Majors

Is it possible for me to me to apply to SMEAL as well as Division of Undergraduate Studies?
Please let me know.

No, you can only apply to one major at a time. If you are interested in Smeal but are unsure if you will get accepted (only something like 10% do), you should apply DUS. You can take the exact same entry to major classes and work towards getting admitted to Smeal in your sophomore year just the same as those who were admitted as pre-majors as freshmen. No one is fully in a major until their sophomore year at Penn State. No one, with the exception of direct admit majors where they begin as a freshman such as golf course management, architecture, etc…

The other route some take which is riskier is to apply to Smeal and ask to be reconsidered into DUS if they are denied. This works a lot of the time but if DUS Is full, then it doesn’t.

Oh okay thank you very much!!

Can you also do engineering if you start at DUS?

^ Yes – most majors are accessible from DUS, including engineering. There are a few exceptions (IIRC, stuff like architecture and nursing?)
