I guess many of the young people at the Academy are studying some type of engineering, and my S is also very interested in all types of Engineering. However, he is also interested in the Military Strategic Studies. Anyone here (or their children) studying MSS? I think he would have a terrific future with the CIA, etc. with this major! What are you all studying?

Duaghter has always been a techie. She went to a magnet school and studied engineering there. Since being at USAFA she has really enjoyed Behavioral Science though. She was qouted in last weeks Academy Base Paper as being very undecided now.

Undecided! ARGH! My Twin1 (not applying to service acads) says he wants to double major in "undecided and undeclared." Driving me insane. How hard is it to change your major once you're in? Can you do so? What will your Dtr do now?

I'm in Military History. MSS was a close second for me.

Military History! That sounds so great raimius. Did or do you feel any pressure to go into a techie field? My eldest S would LOVE your major. That's very cool.

I love math, but i also wanted some management so i still have the business world open. This led me to OR (Operations Researach), which is a mix of the Econonmics, Math, Computer Science, and Management departments.

changing your major depends on what you are changing to/from. going from MSS to aero would be impossible, but aero to math or MSS to BS i've heard can be done.

Yeah, there are definite advantages to being a techie major. The AF still places a lot of emphasis on technology and engineering. Having a non-technical degree will exclude people from engineering jobs and becomming a test pilot. Other than that, it is not a huge deal.

major's night really convinced me to go ahead with aeronautical engineering. ive had this major in mind for a while now. can't wait!

I majored in human factors engineering, which was a track under behavioral sciences, and I minored in German. I went to the Academy thinking I wanted to be an aero major but then realized it wasn't for me. My #1 piece of advice for anyone undecided about a major at the Academy is to pick something you enjoy doing. Whatever you choose will be time consuming and challenging, and if it is something you like, it'll be more fun.
