I want some input from current students on some of the majors that I'm considering, or classes under the departments. I intend to be a pre-law. Well, to be honest, I know I'll be a pre-law and it's unlikely to change. However, I'm undecided about which major to choose. I know I have 2 years to decide, but considering that I have quite a bit of AP credit coming in, it is possible that I'll be double majoring, and I'd like to start taking classes toward my major before my junior year.

The majors I'm considering are:
Philosophy
Economics
Internation Studies
Public Policy
History
Political Science

Any comment on these majors, minors, or classes in the departments will be helpful. I'd also like to know the strength of the faculty in these departments. Another quick question: Do you know of anyone getting a BA and an MA in 5 years at UNC? I know that UNC doesn't officially offer a dual degree, but is it possible if I single major and have AP credit?

I'm a public policy major (actually a double with linguistics) and it's a great program...pretty intense but there are some great faculty and really interesting courses. The philosophy program here is one of the best in the country, so I would recommend trying out some of those classes. And the others you mentioned are also quite good, although I don't have as much personal experiences in those areas. I'm also going to complete a minor (unofficially) in this new program called PPE, which stands for Philosopy, Political science, and Economics. It's a interdisciplinary approach to all three of those at once and it's really interesting...actually it's shared somewhat between UNC and Duke so we get to work with Duke students in some of the classes. So those are some ideas to think about...PM me if you have more specific questions about the pub. policy major or that minor. You can't really go wrong with any of those departments though. And I don't know about your last question...somebody else will have to tackle that one.
