Ok, I have several questions. But before I ask them, let me introduce myself. I'm Sree Yarlagadda. I want to be either a cardiosurgeon or a neurosurgeon later in life. Actually, I don't even know if I want to be a surgeon, may be just a brain or heart specialist. Anyways, what major would be the best if I want my profession to be something with the heart or the brain? I wanted to take Pre-med but when I called the college I want to go to, they said I should consider taking something else. So should I just stick with Pre-med since it covers the heart and the brain, or should i chose a better major?

Pre-med is not a major. It is a set of courses that you need to take to prepare you for admission to medical school. You can major in English Lit. or Medieval History or Nuclear Physics or whatever you want to, and still fit in the pre-med courses.

Some good majors for students interested in brains include:
Biology
Biochemistry
Psychology
Cognition Science
Neurochemistry
Linguistics

You will learn more than you care to about the heart and brain in med school. Much more.

Just pick a major you like, take the pre-reqs for med school, and get good grades.

Yep - and no major will help you once you’re into medical school or further on in residency in neuro or cardio, so just major in whatever you want.

I would be shocked if the pre-med major had any unique courses for studying the heart and brain. At the very most they might have a watered down version of anatomy and physiology that you can take even if you aren’t a pre-med major…
