majors?

This forum is dead, lets liven it up a bit.

What does everyone want to major in?

Mechanical Engineering

neuroscience. you?

Cognitive psychology, and if they have neuropsychology, maybe the latter.

I’m going for Classics, in case my name didn’t give it away haha.

i’m going for neuroscience too!

haha awesome! do you guys know if you are going here for sure?

classicskid: i like the classics. just hate analyzing everything lol

are you going to do gstudies or the cities program?

Biologggggy! but i might be switching that to something with business, idk yet haha

Mia: I’m not sure if I’ll end up here, cost will probably be the deciding factor which is making me lean towards UConn, but you never know. I actually did a job shadow here with the professors in the Classics department when my guidance counselor recommended it, and it really made me want to apply.

I haven’t thought about gstudies, but I don’t think I’ll try the cities program. Is g studies invitation only? I know cities is.

Guided Studies is by invitation only and operates like an honors program. It is a real gem at Trinity. You will have eight of the best classes in the humanities, will be guaranteed to get in with no scheduling problems, and have some of the best professors at the college. Students are intellectually engaged and you will get to know them well doing the core courses. It’s a great fit with classics!

Well if i’m invited I’ll definitely do it then, thanks for the info!

Dual major in biology and history

ClassicsKid: Sucks. Maybe you’ll get a nice Fin.Aid package or lots of scholarships :)

TrinGrad: Did you participate in it? Any advice you can give?

Just to give you a heads up, Classics might not be a major much longer. They are considering eliminating it and replacing it with an interdisciplinary program.

[College’s Classics Department Faces Possible Changes in Future - News](http://media.www.trinitytripod.com/media/storage/paper520/news/2010/03/30/News/Colleges.Classics.Department.Faces.Possible.Changes.In.Future-3896778.shtml)

I have to say that majors at Trinity are very much hit or miss. There are very strong departments, and then there are those that are neglected and lack cohesiveness. It’s unfortunate, but it’s true.

How is the English Department? Creative writing?

Really? Thats such a shame. I went on a job shadow there and followed some of the professors around for the day, and it did seem like a nice program. I suppose it shouldn’t be surprising after I met the only two classics majors in the department as well, though.

Yeah, sadly, Classics has not been popular in the recent years. Its future doesn’t look too bright, but maybe if incoming students express an interest in the major things will improve.

English is a strong major at Trinity. The most popular majors seem to be History, English, Economics, Political Science. I’m a double major in Anthropology (whose department has been struggling, though I love the subject) and Religion (one of the more established majors).

Classicskid,

If you start as a classics major at Trinity, I don’t think there’s any question that you would be able to finish it. Whether it is a “department” or “program” is just administrative. It seems to me from the article that they are considering whether to hire Classics professors to fill vacant positions, or if they are going to leave those positions empty. I highly doubt any tenured professors will be getting fired.

Also, if you are interested in classics, I recommend taking a look at philosophy too. I had a great experience as a philosophy major at Trinity.
