Make up for 3 in AP Physics with SAT II?

I recently got my scores for AP Physics 1, and got a 3. I wasn’t that surprised (actually glad that I even passed).

But the problem is that I’m planning to major in CS, and my guidance counselor said that it might kinda look bad to have a 3 on physics, even more because my grade in AP Physics 1 was A-.
(And I did not know that you couldn’t do score choice for AP scores…)

So I have a choice of taking the SAT II Physics, getting a good score, and show the adcoms that I don’t suck at physics (although i do…)

I know I should take it, but I think I need more encouraging. I should take the test right?

btw I’m a rising senior

It depends. If you’re really willing to self study the topics you didn’t cover in Physics 1 (mostly Magnetism, Thermodynamics, and Modern Physics), then I would go for it. Have fun with the magnetism section.

You seem motivated and I’m sure you could learn these extra concepts easily.

IMO, the SAT Physics test mostly lined up with the stuff on the AP Physics B exam (AP Physics 1 + 2), but it’s not impossible to get a really good score on it. Don’t let the length of the test fool you, but I’d recommend a good prep book. Good luck with the exam!

Unless you’re planning to apply to Harvard (or a similar school), AP scores don’t bear that much weight in the admissions process. If you don’t have two or three subject tests already, and you think you’ll do well on Physics, go ahead, but honestly the AP score isn’t a huge deal.
