Make up work post-APs

Hi everyone,
I am a sophomore and this year I took 3 AP tests over the past week plus had to miss one other day of school (excused absence). Anyways I was excused from classes all of these days meaning the last time I was in class was Tuesday. In my school most sophomores don’t APs and if they do usually like 1 or 2. Since like 70% my grade didn’t take any APs we are still doing work at a fast pace. Now I am literally drowning in work that I missed (4 days worth) and all my teachers are expecting me to still be on track with the rest of the class. I have piles of tests this week that I can’t put off! Any tips for completing all this work efficiently yet effectively?

Personally, especially since you knew this was going to be an issue (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/high-school-life/1974851-going-to-class-before-after-ap-exam.html#latest) I would have planned ahead and tried to knock out some of the assignments in advance. But since you didn’t, get the easiest/shortest assignments out of the way first so that the to-list does not look so intimidating. After that assess what still remains, try to break them into manageable chunks, and if needed, ask for extensions.

I agree with @skieurope , you should have planned ahead, especially if you had a class calendar. Hundreds of thousands of kids across the US also have to do the same, and there shouldn’t be any excuse.

For the tests, you should try and beg your teachers to let you take it after a weekend (so you can study on a weekend). I had 6 AP tests and I still had to do 2 normal class tests (honors classes) that would have been in the middle of my AP exam week. I took all my tests in advance (before AP), which you should do next year (keep it in mind for junior year).

Just tell yourself that you are almost done with school and push through this weekend by simply focusing on homework and nothing else. If you do 10 hours of homework a day, that leaves you with 20 hours of work time. 20 divided by 4 (the days you missed) is 5, so unless your classes have more than 5 hours of homework a day, you should be fine.
