Making a decision! VA Business Programs

My daughter has gotten into UVA, VT Pamplin, JMU, and W&M. We have visited them all, and my daughter likes them all for different reasons.

My family and I were just wondering if we could get information on the business programs at these schools, as that is what she wants to study. We want to know more about the quality of the programs, career prospects/employment, and anything else that might be useful in making our decision. If there are any alumni of any of these schools, your experience and help would be appreciated too. Thank you.

Although not an alumni, I’m quite familiar with UG business schools as it was a primary focus of ours in searching in '17 (S). UVA is known to have a fantastic UG (and graduate) business school. W&M also has a very good one but UVA is consistently highly ranked my many ranking systems every yr (and for a long time). I don’t necessarily think an individual ranking program means all that much but when most (if not all) continually put UVA in the top programs, it must be doing something right.

From a OCR / job placement perspective, it is a leader. Every major bank, consulting company, FLDP , etc recruits on campus. There’s recruiting and then there’s recruiting. Light recruiting is when Goldman Sachs does a drive by. Heavy recruiting is when they have info session, coffee chat, sponsor an event at a basketball game, etc. UVA has heavy recruiting. Look at their First Destination Report (google it). Very impressive. Again, W&M is also very good and sends a ton of kids to DC in consulting jobs but UVA has more national reach.

I’m sure the other two schools are fine but not in the same class,a t least for outcomes, as UVA business.

UVA’s undergrad business school is excellent, but it is not a freshman direct admit program, so something to consider. Students typically apply at the end of 3rd semester. Last year’s admit rate was 59% with a mean college gpa of 3.72

Our family is also trying to make the decision between UVA and JMU. Both business schools do not admit until the 3 year. JMU’s is guaranteed with certain prerequisites and GPA and their accounting has a really good reputation. UVA’s is more difficult to get accepted to but is ranked near the top in the country.
