I apologize in advance for the many questions,
If I can only visit one, Rice or University of Richmond, which is better to visit? I know Rice is considered the better school, but I had been planning on visiting Richmond already (got in EA) and just found out about Rice. I guess now I’m having FOMO about not seeing Richmond?
Is it worth visiting schools on a normal day vs admitted students day?
Should I visit a school I was waitlisted at? Or would it be better to show continued intrest in other ways vs potentially visiting and becoming more emotionally invested in that school?
Thanks!
Last year Rice accepted only a single student out of the 1497 students who accepted a place on the waitlist. I would not waste time and expense visiting a school where you’re waitlisted.
Richmond is a great school with a gorgeous campus. It’s well worth a visit.
Don’t bother to visit waitlist schools. If you haven’t visited at all to your top 2-3 acceptances, do that. We prefer admitted student days to other days, but do what you can.
@warblersrule Just to clarify- I was admitted to Rice, I was waitlisted at Wellesley. Both Richmond and Rice have admitted students days on the same day.
If you can attend Owl Days at Rice, that will give you the best flavor of campus life. The one day admitted student program is pretty good. If you can’t do either one because of conflicts, any visit is better than none. Rice offers regular info sessions and campus tours throughout April. There really isn’t any point in visiting a school where you are waitlisted.
On the Richmond side, I’ll be honest in saying that I never toured or anything, but I’d probably recommend one of the admitted students’ days. We also have campus tours (because who doesn’t) which seem ok on the several that I have bumped into. Also, I’m pretty sure both Rice and UR have multiple days for admitted events, so if you wanted to reach out to the admissions officers I’m sure they can make this work. Whether doing both is justifiable is a question for you.
Also I second @Houston1021; “any visit is better than none”.
I would probably visit Rice during admitted students day and URichmond another day. I would not visit a school you are waitlited at.
If it is at all possible go to owl days at rice . Even if you do not choose rice you’ll have such a blast at owl days you wont regret. My daughter enrolled at rice after owl days even though she had been in love with Smith from day one. Rice was at the end of the whole thing last school we visited and at that point had been to dozens of colleges but were just blown away when we stepped foot onto Rice. Remember you don’t have to stay the entire owls days if you can’t but do at least part of it.
By the way congratulations on acceptance to Rice. Applications skyrocketed this year and acceptance rates plummeted to 11% apparently.
