making friends

hey you guys. im a freshman at USC and I live in an apartment five miles from USC. I thought it would be great that the distance was so short that I can have a social life and the rent is pretty darn cheap, but I realized the the commute is like 20 minutes a day (LA traffic). It's actually been really hard for me to make friends (Im a shy guy but Im very social once u get to know me). Sad thing is that I know lots of freshmen who already made their cliques and I know them as acquaitances in class but it's hard for me to just hang out with them. The "club thing" didnt work...I meet people but it feels just like class...not "chill". Im starting to get to know one or two really laid back guys, but sad thing is that the only time we can hang out is at night. Ive done it once but its pretty dangerous driving back at 11 PM in LA. I dont think my parents will let me rent an apartment next to school (a lil too expensive)..so i was thinking...should I get a job to pay for an apartment or dorm next semester? This (for a better term) ***** situation is getting onto me really badly...I was a pretty studious guy but now...I just dont give a crap about school. Maybe its cuz i had tons of friends in high school and its a complete turnaround now. Any suggestions?

*job to pay for an apartment (walking distance from SC)

dood....why didn't u live in the dorms? i mean, you're already paying a ton of money for USC, their dorms shouldn't be much more expensive than an apt. driving in LA @ 11 isn't that dangerous, but ya the traffic does suck, and USC is in south central so you wouldn't wanna be walking around there @ night if u have an apt. go live in a dorm or frat.

driving isn't dangerous. walking around usc area after 11 is. If u are driving, have fun, stay up late. I drive around at night all the time with my friends so...

What's ur limit on rent? u could live in usc if u pay 650 or so... there are some places that are like 550 (troy east triple for ex)
