Also, neither parent went to college...if that helps?

Schools:
REACHES:
- University of Virginia (OOS)
- Vanderbilt
MATCHES:
- Tulane
- University of Delaware
need more matches!!
SAFETIES:
- SUNY Geneseo (in state)
- Ohio University
- University of Dayton

^ need more matches...between 5,000 and 15,000 students, FRIENDLY atmosphere, great social life. decent name recognition. personal attention. that's the basics. looking to major in business and psych (double major). merit money will be huge in the selection process.

Thanks guys. This is a hard process.
~Elaina~

Delaware is a safety.

Tufts, Emory, Brandeis, Rochester, Lehigh, Michigan, NYU, BC

^^^Delaware is not a financial safety though.

Good suggestions!!! I've thought about Lehigh. Michigan-not enough good financial aid, and Rochester seems too research oriented and I'm soooo not interested in research. NYU- no campus! lol Thanks keep them coming.

Bowling green as a financial safety. It has strong psych program. Also, you'd get a full ride and it's similar to Ohio U, in terms of selectivity and strength of student body.

Give Cornell a try. For psych, the Department of Human Development and Family Studies in the College of Human Ecology, which has discounted tuition as a NYS statutory college. The business program is in the ag school which is also NYS statutory. The bus major is general business, not agribusiness. More expensive than Geneseo but less $$$ than privates. You might get some hefty need based grant $ too.

Smile.

how can i figure out what colleges of cornell are nys discount tuition?

you'll get cheaper tuition at Cornell if you enroll at eitehr the college of agricultural and life sciences, college of human ecology, or school of industrial and labor relations. Within each school there are a variety of majors, i'd check them out online and see if there's something you'd be interested in.

i'll check that out.

union college maybe? ive heard they give good merit aid, and its similar to colgate in feel

While I enjoy the feel of Colgate and Union too, they are about half the size of her lowit limit. I think Cornell would be an appropriate choice too. Maybe also Lehigh, BC and Georgetown.

If you tried taking SAT and bumping up the math a little bit to 700+, i'd say you should give Yale a shot. I'm also partial to Brown (will be there this fall), and I was also thinking you should give Stanford a shot because it has a pretty renowned Psych/Sociology department. In terms of business, you might want to look at GW, Georgetown - and then you can't go wrong with something like Penn State, or any of the SUNYs -- Binghamton for example is one of the better SUNYs. Also check out UNC-Chapel Hill. Hope that helps.

meh a 700+ isn't gonna happen. i went from 550 PSAT to 640 SAT. Hopin maybe a 680 on try #2. :-(still...with a maybe 750 verbal puts me over 1400.

Villanova, Miami (OH), University of Vermont, UConn.

^ good suggestions. others?

I would definitely say that University of Michigan would be an excellent match for you. You mentioned that University of Michigan does not give good enough financial aid. I'm pretty sure that with enough research, you would definitely be able to find enough scholarship money (especially with your relationship to a family victim of cancer) to cover the tuition. I would also suggest Boston University or Northwestern University.

You have excellent potential to get into many different colleges... and if they want you there badly enough, they will grant you plenty of aid. You just have to be active in seeking it.

Best of luck,
