Making Stuff up

Is it ok if I make stuff up on my app, like saying I was an Eagle Scout, similar award in girl scout, won academic decathlon, etc...

No, it's not.

but I want to get into a good college!

Who doesn't want that?

well, u cannot be like I was an eagle scout if u never were. or u cannot be like i won intel but u never even applied. but i guess u can kinda twist ur EC's like saying u were VP of a club when u were secretary if u have to. But, to be safe, just DON'T.

The only times I ever possibly lie is when I don't remember how many hours I put in. I usually just give myself the benefit of the doubt in that case, but DON'T LIE -have some integrity. What is an eagle scout, anyway?

Is this a joke?

i'm pretty sure it is...sarcasm is sometimes difficult to convey online tho

well, i for one am going to tell them that I cured cancer while inventing a way to travel faster than the speed of light :D

I'm gonna tell them i'm the president of the galaxy and write an story essay similar to that guy in hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy.

oh and I think i'll use photoshop and make a fake newspaper article that had me wave at aliens as I got off my spaceship.

If you lie about something like this, it's bad. Several reasons:
a. someone else may deserve the spot more than you, you're jacking them
b. if there was a Heaven and Hell, you're probably going to Hell
c. it's stupid, why would you lie to go to college? college doesn't decide your life.
d. you're stupid if you do this
e. the college is stupid if you succeed
f. if they find out, you're busted
g. its pointless, colleges won't care if you had 1 more EC. And if you lie about it in your essay, you will have no passion and it will be easy to tell them apart
h. it's not ethical- if everybody did it, where would we be now.
i. lying is immoral

i lie to girls sometimes about my status in my society. sometimes i tell them that i graduated from UC berkrey instead of TOKYO U beccause california is more romantic and speical like the O.C.

but to lie to a university must be punished severely and in my country you would most likely be sterilized for such a crime.

a. lawl
b. lawl
c. lawl
d. nope
e. that, or rewarding outside the box thinking
f. if
g. anyone can fake passion
h. lawl
i. lawl

its not like colleges are going to check if you actually are an eagle scout or what ever award you get, they get tens of thousands of applicants each year!

it's morally reprehensible and contrary to the values that make education worthwhile.

I'm definately gonna tell them that I saved the earth from an alien invasion while curing cancer, solving world hunger, and creating a lasting framework for world peace all while teaching poor inner-city kids to read 500 hours a day and getting a 5000 on my SAT.

Seriously, however, you find nothing wrong with lying on your college app? If you do, you are stealing the opportunity to go to that school from a more deserving applicant. You are cutting in line in the admissions process, taking the spot of someone who deserves the spot. Just start stealing CEOs' cars out of a corporate HQ and see how far it takes you (after all, they are ahead of you in the financial 'line' and stealing their cars will make you richer).

but like I said, its not like colleges are going to check if you actually are an eagle scout or what ever award you get, they get tens of thousands of applicants each year!

I also found it funny that on the cheating thread, you guys thought it was alright that you can cheat to have a higher rank and grade, but you don't think its alright to make up stuff...

Just don't do it. You will always wonder if you got in if you hadn't lied. Besides, getting admitted into a college is all about fit. If you portray yourself as something you are not (aka saying you did something you don't) and the college accepts you, you may end up hating the college because it's not the right college for you. Not everyone will fit into an Ivy League environment.

I also found it funny that on the cheating thread, you guys thought it was alright that you can cheat to have a higher rank and grade, but you don't think its alright to make up stuff... um, hypocrites?
