Making sure your scores don't drop the 2nd time?

I took the June ACT with very little prep(skimmed over Princeton Review) and got 31E, 32M, 31R, 23S(29Composite). Because of the time limit, you can never really be safe in making sure your subscores will stay the same. To those who took it at least twice, what did you do to make sure it didn't go down?

I really want to work on science, but I honestly was surprised of my subscores(maybe because it was my first time and wasn't sure how it worked), but that feeling might be telling me that those 31-32 scores need not only work, but also "protection" from apathy. Any tips? Is taking constant practice tests enough(to make sure my scores are consistent), or should I constantly be learning rigourosly on each section no matter my scores?
