Senior at my school wrote “President of Honorable Teen Society” (Or something along those lines) on his application UNC-CH. He got in. What would happen if he got caught?
(I in no way intend to try it, just curious)

he would get kicked out...just like any other univeristy

Do colleges often check the validity of suspicious clubs?

There is a check and balance. Your HS GC will substantiate your ECs. If you say your started a club he did not substantiate, college adcoms are known to call if they are making a decision on you. You could lose everything.

assuming its not you, I wouldn't want to be that person. Not only was it stupid to lie, but they were even stupider to tell anyone else about it. It will hang over their head literally forever!!!

If someone lets the school know in the next few years, they could be kicked out. And depending on the severity of the lie (which in this case doesn't seem THAT severe) they could even rescind a diploma; that's happened to people who sent in forged letters of rec.

some schools check ECs and some don't. I heard that a school takes like a random sample of about 10% of the applicants and check there ECs. If you get caught your app will get thrown out, but if they don't find out nothing will happen.

if you are going to forge ECs, do not forge those that would merit confirmation from a GC, ie forge ECs unrelated to school.

common sense.

If you go to student's review and check out the "how to get in" (or something like that) you will see that one dude said he made up that he started his own business and did crap like that...

Most schools don't have the time to check your ECs. Some schools will validate them, but I think a lot of people get by lying or exaggerating their ECs. Saying you're captain when you're not, making it seem like you were involved in a club when you only went to one meeting, etc. It's really stupid and unnecessary. If you get caught, you have no chance of getting in, and having more ECs doesn't necessarily make you a better candidate. Better just to stick to one or two things and really do them.

President of Honourable Teen Society? That sounds like the biggest loser club there is, lol! They probably let him in because he had a sense of humour!

That sounds really unfair. You should consider reporting him anonymously.

he sounds like a complete loser and nerd
