Making your own website to impress college admins?

Hello there,

I was just curious if you think that making your own website that lists all your activities, achievements, etc. would be a good idea so that you could say list it on your application or mention it to admission officers?

Would they even care to look at such a thing?

Any input would be appreciated. :)

i don’t know but a very good idea.

If there’s an option to submit supplemental materials, colleges usually allow you to provide a link to your personal ‘website’ strictly to see your talents, be they artwork, music, creative writing samples, or research papers. However, if all you put on your website is your extracurriculars and a biography about you (in other words, there’s no unusual level of talent), admissions committees won’t be impressed.

So if you would have submitted supplemental materials, you can include them on a website and send the college a link to it. But if your website is just a blog about you and what you do, I would strongly advise that you don’t send the link, unless the site is for an organization, club, or cause that you founded which directly relates to you, the applicant.

Okay, I have done a number of graphic art designs for competitions and for people in general, so I was thinking that I would also be able to showcase those on my site. Thanks for the input.

In that case, I would create a website only for pictures of those designs, and then send the link to colleges. And yes, by the way, in that case it’s completely okay to send the link. :)
