Quick question.. When i was makign my bruin online account and it asked my for my login name i didnt know that would be my email name. now i am stuck with a really stupid email name because i use the same login for everything. anyone know if there is a way to change ur email?

I don't think you can change it.

No. It's permanent.

Your only option is to create an alias.

How do u do that?

bol.ucla.edu > help center > faq's > email aliases

http://www.bol.ucla.edu/help/alias/faq.html

k thanks! is there any way that you can have the alias appear instead of the original name when sending an email?

Didn't it say somewhere on that FAQ?

"How do I make my email alias the address that appears to recipients when I use webmail?

Unfortunately at this time, this is not possible. However, we are working on including such a feature in a future webmail upgrade."

I have a question, should the emails be something more personal (like my ID for CC is a gone with the wind reference), or will professional people see it and should I make it formal (like my name)?

i think people usually stick with names for college email accounts

Yeah considering that it is permanent.

The "standard" is just first letter of first name and the whole last name. However, they have recently in the past year allowed usernames that are up to 15 characters rather than 8, so perhaps it may be the entire name now.

Thanks but they allow you to change it one time. http://www.bol.ucla.edu/services/accounts/username/

That's not what its for though. Its purpose is to allow people that were limited by 8 characters to get a new username that is up to 15 characters long, which was implemented last summer.

i'm making my email soon, and i don't want to use my name (parents don't think it's wise). what are some examples of ucla students not using their names in their email? how silly/serious are they? i know this is a strange question but i'd really appreciate some help... thanks!

why exactly do they think its not wise? I personally think its not the best idea to make your school e-mail particularly silly/stupid (since you can't change it, you'll be using it for corrospondance with professors, etc), and your name in some format seems to be the best choice.

not wise... because of stalkers? haha. well, you dont have to put your whole name, you can just use parts of your name. for example my name is alyssa wang, and i chose alywang@ucla.edu as my account. don't stalk me now :P

quick quick! everyone spam her and facebook her!

but i would probably remove your email from your post. theres bots and spiders that crawl the web looking for email addresses, and then sell them to spammers.

Convert your e-mail to "name[at]ucla[dot]edu" -- it'll hopefully evade the forum-bots.

Guys, c'mon...let's be fair here. By week 3 of second quarter the UCLA mail is so plagued with spam anyway. Since most people can't even fathom the notion of a client, it gets pretty bad.

Seriously kiddies, start using Outlook or Thunderbird NOW. You'll thank me later.

i dont get any spam in my ucla email at all

how do you configure the UCLA webmail for outlook? I can't seem to find instructions.... help!
