Does male/female ratio influence admissions? I hear that men have an advantage at LACs and women at engineering programs...

It can although whether and how much of an advantage exists varies. A number of LAC's with high female to male ratios have mentioned that they are trying to lower that ratio and thus give consideration in admission process to being male. Many engineering schools, both those which are independent and those that are part of an otherwise equal ratio university, treat women as under-represented minorities and give them a plus factor for admission. How much does that plus factor mean. Someone from MIT mentioned once it amounts to being given about 20 extra points on your SAT (old test).

thanks..that is a good way of looking at it...
