<p>the last time i was in ithaca was a looong time ago and there wasnt much around so we had to drive up to syracuse to go anywhere.. how developed is ithaca now?</p>

<p>ithaca has everything you would need. pyramid mall, target, wal-mart, topps, several large shopping centers. certainly more than there was even 5 years ago.</p>

<p>Ithaca is a bustling town, not a rural nothing. The area around is rural nothing, but ithaca is pretty vibrant and busy. Ithaca even has a local currency, not that I've ever used it: <a href="http://www.ithacahours.org/%5B/url%5D"&gt;http://www.ithacahours.org/&lt;/a>. Here's a list of many area businesses: <a href="http://www.choicehotels.com/ires/en-US/html/HotelInfoArea?hotel=NY127&sid=IWdxM.SD50igCpz.4#bussort%5B/url%5D"&gt;http://www.choicehotels.com/ires/en-US/html/HotelInfoArea?hotel=NY127&sid=IWdxM.SD50igCpz.4#bussort&lt;/a>. Some big names included on the list are Barnes&Noble, Bed Bath & Beyond, Best Buy, Borders Books, FedEx, Hollywood Video, Home Depot, Kmart, Lockheed Martin ( I love that one haha), Lowe's, Merril Lynch, Met Life, Old Navy, Pier 1, Salomon Smith Barney, Staples, Target, Walmart, and Wegmans.</p>

<p>That's just a sampling. But as you can see, there's not much of a difference in terms of availability of big name stores between suburban NJ near princeton and isolated ithaca, NY.</p>

<p>Lol... Lockheed Martin? Is there a big market for bombers in Ithaca?</p>

<p>No, it's actually in Owego, NY... about 30 miles East of Ithaca... (about 1.5 miles West of me...). It's a major employer in the area.</p>

<p>Lockheed Martin's world headquarters are literally right across the street from my school, but I don't know anyone who works there. I wonder if Lockheed does a lot of recruiting at Cornell because they apparently have offices in Upstate New York.</p>

<p>Yes, they do... In Owego, NY is a major L.M. facility.</p>
