Man... I am alway caught unprepared... what's wrong with me?

OK, I wasn't ever expecting to get accepted to the University of Virginia. Now, that I am accepted I'm worried that I may have messed up even more. Here's my situation: I waited until the last day to send the University specific application for student aid (not the FAFSA, the one that is unique to UVA). So, I faxed that out while in school on like February 28. I waited so late because I did not know it was due on March 1 until like 2 days before and I was even more lackadaisical about getting in on time because I was so depressed... I was certain that it was in vain because I would be rejected.

The thing that worries me is that I didn't have copies of my parent's tax papers xeroxed so I could fax at the same time. So, I had to wait until March 2 to make copies of those and then I faxed those out on March 3 which was a Saturday, which means that they were probably received March 5. Now, the thing that bothers me even more was that since I had never used a fax machine before (I had to go to Kinko's and fax it) was that I didn't know that there was supposed to be a cover letter or anything, so I just faxed the papers straight through... They might have mixed them up with some other kid's papers... Now, that I found out at 5:30 that I did get in, despite the fact that I thought I would never get in, I'm starting to freak out that maybe I messed up when applying for financial aid. I tried calling the financial aid office to see if they got my stuff but they closed at 5 PM and are only open Monday - Friday.

I qualified for AccessUVA... am I screwed when it comes to financial aid?

Is their any way for me to contact the financial aid office on weekends?

I dont know too much about whether or not the University will give you the financial aid, but I think if you state your case well and let them know how important fin. aid it shouldnt be a problem, given its just the tax forms.

Also is worst comes to worst, you'll have to be paying full price for your 1st-year and you can just re-apply for aid in your second-year.

Congrats BTW!!

lol thanks... but I'm actually more nervous now than I was before I got accepted. Before I thought I was just gonna get rejected and move on... now I'm kicking myself in the head for being such an idiot and not checking with the financial aid office that everything was ok earlier... i'm always unprepared. I feel like an emo kid right now.

Calm down. If you faxed the forms feb 28th you met the deadline. They probably did not look at them till much later anyway as they would have received 100s of forms at around that time (for instance we completed FAFSA the beginning of feb and her school show it received in March - when they finally looked at it). If you are worried about it call or email monday to check they got everything. The financial aid personnel people we have dealt with have been very nice and helpful. But even if you could get hold of them over the weekend I doubt they would appreciate it much! For now celebrate your acheivement and enjoy your weekend. Congrats!

Don't worry about the financial aid, the PRIORITY deadline was March 1st but that is so the financial aid people have a lot to begin working on. I was panicing because they keep requesting additional information from me and I was afraid I was getting penalized for it and the woman I spoke to on the phone said it didn't make a difference and they didn't run low on funds until June. So.... get it in ASAP and you'll be good. Congrats :)!!!

Just don't let it happen again. Remember Murphy's Law.

if you qualified for AccessUVA, then UVA will do whatever feasible to get you to go there. you should be eligible for incredible subsidized (read: don't start paying anything, interest payments included, back until after graduation) loans, grants, and great work-study. read about AccessUVA! it's a great program.
